The resort consists of ten interlinked villages, some traditional Alpine, some purpose-built, at different altitudes, with 110 lifts and 212 km of runs. The latter has doubled with the opening of the four-minute link to Les Arcs, which runs for more than a mile across the gorge that separates it from La Plagne. The circuit is now known as Paradiski.


Plagne Villages, where the apartment is situated, is one of the highest, purpose-built satellites at 2050 metres. A high, snow sure resort with superb scenery and a good range of mountain restaurants. The skiing is extensive and varied, suited to all levels. Highly recommended for beginners but particularly great for the intermediate skier, with long runs above the tree line or pretty, winding runs through the trees to lower resorts. Snowboarders are well taken care of, with a dedicated park, intermediate and extensive off-piste make ideal ground for both beginners and experienced riders. And for the non-skier: cleared walking paths, organised walking tours in snow shoes, ski-bob, ice skating, cross-country skiing routes, hang-gliding and parapenting.

Although this part of France is generally thought of in connection with skiing, this is a wonderful area in Summer, too (July/August). It is peaceful and uncrowded, with cow-bells tinkling and snow-capped mountain peaks all around. Great for relaxing, good for serious walkers, climbing, etcetera. Even summer skiing is possible on the glacier if the weather is suitable. There are tennis courts nearby, and plenty of restaurants and cafes are open within the resort.

As far as skiing is concerned, it is ski in/ski out. The apartment is situated at the edge of a blue run which goes down to Plagne Centre from where there is a wide choice of lift. At the end of the skiing day, there is a choice of drag or chair lift to get you back home - and, at 2050 m, conditions would have to be really bad if you could not ski to the door. If you came by car and like to try other resorts, then Courchevel, Les Arcs (also linked to La Plagne by cable car), Val dIsere, Tignes and Meribel are all within one and a half hours drive. One of these photographs shows the view from the balcony, but both sides of the apartment have good views, on the North side towards Mont Blanc. The pictures were taken at the beginning of January.

These low rise, chalet style apartments are built on sloping land meaning that, although the entrance door of the flat is on the second floor, the South-facing living room and balcony, are at first floor level. From here you have a good view looking out towards the ski slopes. The area between the ski slope and the apartments is a favourite for kids with toboggans, so you can sit on the balcony and keep an eye on your children at the same time.

The apartment is constantly being upgraded. For example, in October 2004 a new, fully-fitted kitchen was installed. A new bathroom and possibly an additional loo are the next projects.

Kitchen newly fitted with full range of cupboards, worktop, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, under counter electric oven, ceramic hob with 3 radium and one halogen rings, microwave.

Bathroom with bath with shower fitting, wash basin. Separate WC.

Outside: Ski and boot locker on ground floor. General uncovered parking.

The apartment can sleep 6 if required, but 2/4 in comfort. There is communal heating to the block, but there are further electric heaters in the apartment itself. The telephone in the apartment is for incoming and outgoing local calls only. Linen (anything washable) is not included in the rental cost but can sometimes be hired. There are two double and two single duvets at the apartment, plus blankets.

Depending on availability, it may be possible to rent the property on a part week basis, particularly in Summer where it could be an add-on to your main holiday if you choose one of the houses I let in the Lot or Languedoc, or my own property in Provence.
